Fight the
Spin
I was in Church the other day
looking over the new song book and I noticed something
strange. The publishers had changed the words to the
song Amazing Grace. This first line goes like this as
much of us know:
“Amazing Grace how
sweet the sound that saved a wretch like
me.”
The new line went like this:
“Amazing Grace how sweet the
sound that came to set me
free.”
I thought about the changes a long time and
realized that they reflect the culture that we now live
in. I can just hear the publishers discussing the
changes in the song,
“We can’t keep this the way it is. Calling
someone a wretch this day in time is horrible. We have
to change the words to be more politically correct. We
might be accused of hate language.”
Why do we do such things? I believe it is because
we do not want to face the truth of who we really are.
We kill babies in the womb and we’re not baby killers,
or murderers of infants, we’re pro-choice. We exchange
God’s plan for human sexuality and it’s not weird,
queer, or strange, it’s gay. We live in adultery with
another person and we are not adulterers or fornicators,
we are a significant other.
If we can change the name of our sin into
something that sounds positive then we convince
ourselves that it is alright. We call it positive spin.
The source of this idea of positive spin originated
strangely enough in the Garden of Eden. I’m
paraphrasing…
Satan: “Has God
said?”
Eve: “Yea, God has said
not to eat of the Tree of Good and Evil; for the day we
eat we will die.”
Satan: “
Bologna
! You won’t die.
God is holding out on you. God knows that the minute you
eat of the Tree, you will be like God. You’ll know both
good and evil.”
You will be like God is a long way off from you
will die, but the spin worked then and it’s working
today. Positive spin keeps us from acknowledging our
errors and faults and keeps us from repenting. If we can
convince ourselves that we have done nothing wrong then
there is no need to seek God’s
forgiveness.
The Word of God teaches us that we are called to
be a holy people, sanctified by the truth. The word,
holy, in Hebrew means set apart. What are we set apart
from? I think the Apostle Peter states it very well in 1
Peter 2:9:
“But you
are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy
nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth
the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness
into His marvelous light.
“
Now compare this verse to John
1:4-5:
“In Him was life;
and the life was the light of men. And the light shown
in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it
not.”
Here is the answer. We have been called out of
darkness, but what if we fail to heed that call? Then we
stay in darkness where we can not comprehend the light.
To make our darkness bearable, we put a positive spin on
it and call it something besides darkness.
There are many today who reside in this camp.
They are very zealous for their position and respond
adamantly when attacked by the light even to the point
of denying there is a God. God calls those who dwell in
this camp tares, darkness, and goats. Here is what the
Word says about this camp:
“But if our gospel be hid,
it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this
world has blinded the minds of them which believe not,
lest the light of the glorious gospel should shine unto
them” – 2 Corinthians 4:3-4.
The
same spin that Satan used in the garden on Adam
and Eve he is now using on many people today. As people
accept and believe the spin a vast darkness is growing
in man over the earth. What can we do? We can put a
flood-light into the hands of every person. That
flood-light is the glorious gospel of Jesus, the Word of
God, the Holy Bible. We at Bibles Cover The Earth have
started but we need your help. Each and every month we
send out Bibles to people who have written and requested
a Bible with their name embossed on it. Each Bible
represents a flood of light going somewhere in the
darkness to share the gospel and to expose the lies of
Satan’s positive spin.
Don’t
think that you are unaffected by this Satanic spin. It
affects every one, and if not exposed and destroyed it
will affect each succeeding generation to a greater
degree. It’s now even affecting the age-old songs that
we have sung for generations.
At Bibles Cover The Earth our vision has always
been to Spread the Word, to get the glorious gospel into
the hands of any person that wants it by sending out
Bibles or by empowering people who want to work for the
gospel with our compensation plan. Once again we
encourage you to help us, become active. It really takes
very little time but the effects of our combined effort
can be enormous. Together, let’s all shine the Light.
