Every choice carries its own consequence. It’s
been that way since the very beginning. Adam’s choice to
disobey God in the Garden of Eden resulted in
consequences that still affect each of us today. When
God first starting working with the nation of Israel, He
took the mass of people out to two mountains explaining
that the mountains represented choices – the mountain of
blessing and the mountain of cursing. His instructions
to the people were: “This day I call heaven and earth as
witnesses against you that I have set before you life
and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so
that you and your children may live…” – Deuteronomy
30:19.
Choose life, what a strange request indeed. It would
seem that choosing life would be the natural response
of every man, but that is not true. In fact, it seems
just the opposite. We choose to smoke, drink and eat
things that cause hardships to our body. We choose to
watch, listen and participate in things that put our minds
in a quandary. We even choose to elect leaders who admit
to being anti-life. How can we expect to live a life
of comfort and ease when we constantly make the wrong
choices? I believe that somehow we have convinced ourselves
that our choices do not matter, thinking that regardless of
the choices we make life is still going to go well for
us.
It
is obvious by the news coming out of Washington that they think we, the common
people, are no longer capable of making adequate choices for
ourselves. At least that is what the powers that
be seem to believe. Our failure to understand the
consequences of our choices has led to a state of
existence where we are no longer given the power to
choose. This is not a very good place to be because this
state of existence does not allow room for our Father
God. Even His Ten Commandments are excluded. No
knowledge of God, no choice to know and serve
Him.
When Moses died and the task of leading the massive hoard of
people fell to Joshua, God gave Joshua this
instruction: “This book of the law shall not depart out
of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and
night, that you may observe to do according to all that
is written therein: for then you shall make your way
prosperous and then you shall have good success” –
Joshua 1:8.
Why would God give Joshua these instructions?
Because He knew that Joshua would have heavy choices to
make concerning the people and that those choices would
result in tremendous consequences. God was saying that
if you are well versed in the law or word of God, then
you will make the right choices.
What does this say to us? God’s instruction to
us is the same instruction He gave to Joshua. Every day each
of us are required to make difficult choices. Each of
those decisions carries with it far-reaching consequences.
But if the word of God is in our heart, then that word
has the power to help us make the right
decisions.
It
is obvious from the news media that God’s word is nowhere
to be found. Why is this so? In John Chapter Three, Jesus
tells Nicodemus that no one can SEE the Kingdom of
God unless he/she is born again. This means that God’s
ways make no sense to those who are not saved. This
should cause alarm for every Christian. We are being
bombarded on every side by information that is originating in
the hearts of the unsaved and we are being
led to make choices based on this information. Look
around, the results are blatant. Things are falling
apart all around us because we are continuing to make
the WRONG choices. We are living the consequences of
those choices.
I believe that the only hope we have to make
quality choices, which are not based people's opinions, lies
within our relationship to the Word of God. We must return
to the mindset that every choice we make should be based
on God’s Word. It is then and only then that we will
have good success.
At Bibles Cover The Earth we believe that this is
our only true option. The Word of God is the ultimate
key. Making a choice that lines up with the Word of God
will lead to success every time. The Word never fails.
It never comes back to God void.
Once you understand the power in our choices you
will understand why we are so adamant about the success
of Bibles Cover The Earth. No man lives in a vacuum. The
choices that each of us make affect all of us that live
on this planet. It should be obvious to even those who
pay no attention to the world around them that things
are getting severe. We shudder in horror when we hear
that Nero fiddled while Rome burned, but many now are
playing and partying while the lives of others are
falling apart. The “fire” of destruction may for now
seem far away, but if we fail to make the proper choices
now
the destruction may soon be at
our doorstep. Each of us is either part of the
solution or we are part of the problem. If we
refuse to make the proper choices someone else will make them
for us. Sir Edmund Burke stated that all evil needed to
triumph is for good people to do nothing.
I believe that this country cannot exist without
a moral and Christian framework under girding our
Republic. Our choices have allowed the present framework
to exist. There is so much dishonesty, greed, and
selfishness in our society today that no one trusts our
elected officials. Who would have ever thought that our
representatives would pass bills that they’ve never
read? What a stupid choice!
Nearly every day we receive requests from men in
prison who want a Bible. We are proud to emboss a name
on a Bible and return it to the inmate because that
choice opens the door for great potential. Every Bible
creates the opportunity for someone to read and
understand God’s Word and begin to make choices in line
with that Word. Sounds good, doesn’t it? One of our
vision scriptures for Bibles Cover The Earth is found in
Isaiah 11:9: For
the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as
the waters cover the sea. For that to happen some
serious choices have to be made by you and me. We can no longer
afford to sit on the sidelines and allow someone else to
make the proper choices. Come on! Make the choice to
become involved again and let’s take this world for the
Lord Jesus, one Bible at a time.
Jesus,
I choose this day to be a channel of Your love and Your
Word. Help me to become all You called me to be so that
every choice I make today and in the future bears fruit
for Your Kingdom and brings You glory.
Amen.
