Prisoners Still Asking For Bibles

We continue to receive requests for Bibles from the Correctional Units at Pine Bluff, Tucker, Newport and Texarkana.  Please help us meet this need.  If you have been thinking about buying a Bible to help one of these inmates, now would be a great time.  You can e-mail us and we will provide a name when-ever you want.

President's Corner

by Brent Holt

Isn’t inertia interesting?  Inertia is basically the force that resists change.  If a body is in motion, it wants to stay in motion and it takes force to stop it.  If a body is stopped, it takes an outside force to get it moving.  We all learned about inertia in high school but I don’t remember my physics teacher ever pointing out the inertia of our minds and hearts.  Just like I mentioned above, overcoming the inertia of an object requires an outside force.  I am convinced that the human heart cannot change, cannot overcome its inertia, without the work of an outside force.  Just take as an example anyone you may know who is addicted to something like drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling, etc.  Studies have shown that addicts have to have some reason, some outside force, to get them to quit successfully.
As Christians, we need to constantly be aware of the inertia of our fallen state.  Our human nature wants to stay the same and resists change.  Since our fallen nature is a part of us, any force within our own minds or power is useless to help.  Nothing mankind can do for itself is adequate to overcome the state we are in.  Think of mankind as contained within a box that is sliding down a steep slope.  Nothing we can do from within the box will stop its slide.  From within the box, we can build sky-scrapers, hospitals, rocket ships, and therapy centers; we can measure the dimensions and have science tell us all there is to know about the inside of the box; we can name leaders and kings and hold certain people in the highest esteem, but none of it will have any effect whatsoever on the box sliding down the hill.  We require an outside force to fight against the inertia.  That force is Jesus Christ.  Thankfully, in Jesus, God stepped in and provided the necessary force to stop the inertia of our fallen state.  Jesus was fully human, but because he was also fully God and sinless, He wasn’t confined to the box that was sliding down the hill.  He was able to affect it with an outside force.  And though Jesus, mankind now has access to this outside force (the Holy Spirit) so that we too can counter the inertia of our sinful nature.
A large part of our world is still sliding down the hill in the box, either oblivious to the fall or helpless to stop it.  As Christians, we have pledged our belief and hearts to Jesus as our King.  Our King has commissioned us [see Matthew 28: 19-20] to reach out and, through Jesus, become the outside force that can help our neighbor escape from the doom of inertia.

Bible Verse of the Month

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.  John 14:12

What's the News?

As noted in the past couple of newsletters, Bibles Cover The Earth is planning some changes for the program.  We've heard that many of you are wondering how the program is going and what is in store.
First of all, the program continues to work.  As last month's newsletter noted, over 400 Bibles are out in the world thanks to those of you involved with the Bibles Cover The Earth program.  That is 400 more Bibles out in the world than when we started just over a year ago.  We've had new people sign up and new people continue to show interest in the concept.
Is growth slower than originally expected?  That depends on who was doing the expecting...

Isaiah 56:8-9 says, " 'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,' declares the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.' "
These verses certainly apply to our program.  God's timing is everything and all important.  I personally have to keep reminding myself that we are on the ground floor of something big.  Making a small company into a big company takes time and effort.  Currently it feels to me like the changes we are working on are moving forward at a snail's pace.  However, I keep reminding myself that God's hand is sovereign and I know that things will be in order exactly when He intends for them to be.  If you are already a part of our program, be assured that you are in a great place...primed and ready to grow with us.  If you have been considering joining us in our mission and vision, now would be a great time.
Change and growth are, and probably always will be, on the horizon for Bibles Cover The Earth.  As soon as some of the upcoming changes are more finalized, we'll send out an email and have more news for this newsletter.  We just wanted to let you know that things are happening behind the scenes.  Keep the ideas coming and please continue to pray for us.  -BH

A Christmas Lesson At Easter Time

I love the NASA website with all the pictures of the novas and the beauty and wonder of outer space. Those who visited BCTE’s booth at the fair last year may remember that we had a slide show presentation of some of NASA’s beautiful slides.

The real reason that I love these pictures is that they demonstrate the majesty and power of our heavenly Father. These awesome creations help to stretch my imagination and increase my admiration and respect for His creative ability. Like the Psalmist, I find myself wanting to shout:

The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handy-work – Psalm 19:1.

Think for a moment what type of being could create such an awesome spectacle, and then consider this: That being became a man and suffered the most horrendous abuse and death in order to ransom us. Every time I see the movie, The Passion, and watch as the soldiers rip His flesh from His body I can’t help but consider what great love the Father has for us, His children. For Him, creating a super nova is no big deal, but seeing His children hurt under the pangs of sin is something worth all He has to give to end it – and end it He did.

This month we celebrate the anniversary of Jesus’ death and resurrection – the time when the God who had created everything subjected Himself to nails driven in His hands and feet. He who had created the atoms of Oxygen and Nitrogen suffocated on a Cross. He had created the Copper that made the nails. He had created the tree that made the Cross. He had even created the men who pounded the nails into His flesh. This past Christmas I think I discovered why. As beautiful as the eleven foot tree was in the middle of the room, and as awesome as the truck load of presents were under that tree, and as beautiful as the multicolored lights were strung around the house, they didn’t amount to much without my grandchildren to share them with. I believe our heavenly Father feels the same way. All these spectacles in space, in fact all of creation, is nothing to Him unless He has His children to share them with. He had created all this “stuff” for His children and unless He ransomed them they would never get to enjoy it – and neither would He.

Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has it entered into the hearts of men what the Father has in store for us who love Him – 1 Corinthians 2:9.

Some day every one of us who have made Jesus our Lord will enjoy a guided tour of all that He has created for us. What a wonderful idea to ponder and to share with those who don’t know Him as their Father.

We would like to take this opportunity from everyone at Bibles Cover The Earth to wish all of you and your family a very Happy Easter. --DFH

Prayer For Your Genealogy

On the back of your instruction booklet is a prayer for your genealogy. God can only build this business and we can only succeed if we are praying for ourselves, our genealogy, and the company. Please either make a copy of the back of the instruction booklet or tear off the back and stick it on your refrigerator where you will be reminded every day to pray. There is truly strength in corporate prayer.
